brief history: Raised by her grandmother, who belonged to a group of woman who made their combined living out of working in a small and well-organised crime ring. Eventually there was an accidental slip and people were caught — Sabine was questioned violently by police as a teenager, taken from her grandma and put up for adoption. She never got adopted (too 'old' and too quiet) but stayed on at the home and helped out there for a few years after turning 18, working for little pay, then fucked off. Started traveling. Got a good job as a reporter that could also travel. Met someone. Got a civil union. Got an annulment whoops (messyyyyy dyke drama). Still traveling and doing covert errands and jobs for Raiz but likes to come back and check on the house every so often

Will do missions because if they don't do their job they'll get vaporised probably but they will drag their heels the entire time

Kahu can read minds by proximity — unfortunately the power is involuntary and she hears everybody around her all at the same time, individual thoughts layered over top of one another. If she concentrates very hard she can thread one person out from all the noise and focus on what they are saying. If she can touch somebody and hold onto them for long enough she can manipulate their current thoughts. She hates using these powers (the invasion of privacy makes her insanely uncomfortable) and simply bears the constant chatter from everybody around her. It exists sort of like tinnitus in her head (noise level is akin to sitting around in a coffee shop occasionally clearly hearing somebody else's conversation). Bc of this she's functionally nocturnal and active at night when everybody else is asleep (and much quieter). If she's up during the day she's got a really good pair of noise-cancelling headphones on at all times
